Adult onesie/footed pajamas by jumpinjammerz.com review - My Favourite Things

Hello, everybody! I recently acquired something that I've been wanting for a very long time: a set of footed pajamas with a drop seat. I really love onesies, they're adorable and keep all of you warm! If you're here for the review only, skip to the next section. If you're interested in the backstory, keep reading! :)

UPDATE NOVEMBER 29TH 2017: A little over a year after this original post, I've worn this pretty much every day in all seasons except summer, and I figured it's time to update the review.

It's worn out enough that it could be stand to be replaced, but isn't yet in the condition where it's completely unwearable. The velcro on the drop seat is coming off, and one of the feet has lost the elasticity in the ankle, as well as the fabric taking on that "well loved pajama" look from numerous washes. However, I can extend its life a little bit with a bit of DIY repairs, which is what I'll do because I love it so much. Well worth it, it's held up pretty well for the price, especially for the heavy amount of usage it got. With the DIY repairs, I think it'll last at least another cold season. I highly recommend it.

Backstory:

Last Christmas Mum got me a really soft and super adorable grey onesie, it has a hood with an owl face on it. I love it, but it has some issues. The main problem was that it didn't have feet built in, only elastic bands around the ankles. The problem here isn't just chilly feet, but the fact that if I sat or laid in certain positions (most of them, unfortunately), the elastic would ride up and seriously squeeze my calfs. I have sort of poor circulation, so this is a huge problem, going beyond discomfort to low levels of pain at times.

The other problem was that it only had a zipper in the front going from the base of the neck to mid groin, so if you need to use the bathroom while wearing it, you have to take it off entirely (or have it around your ankles, same difference). This sucks because it's otherwise delightfully soft and warm, pretty much my go-to for around the house wear in the colder seasons, but all that is negated because I have to entirely undress multiple times a day to use the bathroom. There is no reason my upper body should be naked and freezing every single time I hit the bathroom.

So, that being said, I went on a hunt for the perfect onesie. I wanted something aesthetically pleasing that I was happy to wear and look at (I didn't want to settle for something not my style and thus subpar), with the standards of having both a drop seat (zipper, velcro, or snap didn't matter to me) and built in feet. I looked for an embarrassingly long time, for about two weeks. There are hundreds of onesie options out there, but it seemed like I was constantly choosing two out of the three features I wanted. I'd find something super adorable, and it has feet! ...But it has a front only zipper, no drop seat. Oh look, this cute cosplay onesie has a dropseat! ....But no feet. Why do 80% of onesies for sale online not have feet? Then of course there'd be one that has a dropseat AND feet...but it'd be ugly and not something I'd be happy to pay money for and happily wear.

After about a week of searching on my own, I got Stephen in on the hunt. We spent a few hours on different sites, showing each other potential options and asking input from the other. I really appreciate how well he knows my style, and he has really good taste. Still, this was something special to me so I didn't want to settle with the first option that was just suitable. Eventually, he found this one, in "Pink Clumsy Cones" from JumpinJammerz.com. We both thought it was very cute, but I didn't want to rush to buy it just on the off chance something better popped up. After another week of adamantly searching, I found nothing, and my mind kept shifting back to the Clumsy Cones, so I went back to it.

At the time, it was on a huge clearance sale at $25 plus shipping. A lot of the onesies on this site are stereotypically unisex in print, but this one is more typically "girly". As a result, all of the smaller sizes had sold out completely (they have unisex sizing for all prints). The smallest size they had left was Medium, which is for those 5'7"-5'11", and so me standing at 5'10", I was overjoyed! :D I felt like the stars aligned and knew this was the one, so I finally made the plunge and bought it.

Review

My onesie is in the print "Pink Clumsy Cones", designed by Josie Stevens, sold by JumpinJammerz.com. If you're interested in purchasing it, please do so here, via my referral link. :) For sizing reference, I'm 5'10", and the size I got is Medium: 5'7"-5'11" on the USA size chart. At the time of writing this I am around 120 Lbs. This onesie is made of "polar fleece", 100% polyester. Washing instructions say to wash in cold on a delicate cycle, and hang to dry for best results, but you can also tumble dry with no heat.

I got it the first week of November, 2016. I'll edit this post periodically to share how it's holding up. So far, it's almost perfect! It's just what I was looking for, and more. See update at bottom of review post. Latest update July 19th, 2017. Besides the two features I required for purchase, it has additional features that make it even more awesome! Here's a list:

✯ Built in feet
✯ Drop seat (with velcro)
✯ Hood with drawstring
✯ Thumb holes on the sleeves
✯ Kangaroo pockets (two)
✯ Tiny pocket on the upper left arm

I did a photoshoot in it, both for review purposes and to expand my fashion modeling portfolio. Below you can see it from all angles. However, in all honesty, I didn't notice the tiny upper arm pocket at first so I'll need to take an additional photo featuring it to edit in later.

I apologize for the obnoxious watermarks on these, but unlike the majority of my modeling work, (which may be used as stock as long as it complies with my Image Terms of Use) I don't want people using these particular fashion modeling images images without permission. The one with JuJu and the braids is considered premium stock, however, and may be purchased on dA without watermark to use as stock.

Here's a close up of the drop seat.  One of the one two "cons" I can nitpick about the onesie involves the drop seat. It isn't a huge deal, and is an easy fix but worth mentioning. It only has velcro along the top, not the sides, so every now and then you get a little bit of a draft. Not a big deal, especially if you're wearing underwear *cough*, and an easy fix if you want to seal up all sides. The easiest way is adhesive velcro that you just peel stick on to your fabric, but if you want a more secure fixture, there's the traditional sew-on velcro as well. :)

The other thing which I do consider to be con, not a huge deal yet also worth mentioning: There are no grippers on the bottom of the feet. Usually footed pjs and those fuzzy winter socks have some sort of little plastic or rubber bits to help prevent slippage, and these don't. My stairs are carpeted with plush carpet, so I have to be extra careful, as I've slipped a few times. Never fully fallen, just lost my footing a little when I shuffle around carelessly.

There might be an easy fix for this too, in theory. Of course, the onesie isn't "broken", it's fine without "fixing" it; you don't need to do this, but if you'd like to, think of it as an optional DIY upgrade. :) If you take a hot glue gun, you can put little lines or dots on the bottom of the foot (preferably when you're not wearing it) and let it dry. Hot glue guns don't actually use glue, they work by melting plastic in the form of the "glue sticks", so what you're actually putting out is melted plastic. I haven't tested this theory yet, so I can't tell you for sure if it would hold up in the washer or not. I'd also recommend thin lines of hot glue instead of little dots, because I'm sure you'll be able to feel the patterns of the glue underfoot through the fabric, but that's just my preference.

Also, during the onesie photoshoot part two (with my braids), I sat on the floor and JuJu just couldn't resist crawling into my lap. :) Such a sweetie! I love him so much.   We got some really cute photos. Here's one!

Overall, I'm very happy with my onesie. It's very soft and keeps me nice and warm, just what I wanted and more! :) On the chilliest days I toss a robe over it for good measure when I'm actively walking around the house, but it's just perfect for those days spent lounging around, especially under a blanket. No matter what the weather, you'll be warm and cozy head to toe.

I highly recommend JumpinJammerz as they have nice customer service and a very wide selection of onesies. :) However, with such a wide selection, do be sure to check the title and the description of the onesie you're looking at and read carefully. Not all of them are made the same, some don't have a drop seat, feet, or other features unless it explicitly says or shows it does (if not, assume it doesn't). When in doubt, message the company and ask if a particular model has the features you're looking for. I was previously looking at a different onesie before deciding on this one, one which didn't specifically say it had a dropseat, so I emailed them to check whether or not it did before purchase. I'm very glad I messaged them because it did not have one, and I almost bought it! They also included a link to their line of products which do feature drop seats with their reply, so that was nice.

Thank you for reading my review. :) I hope you find a new onesie you like! Stay warm this winter, my friends!

Love,
Queen Werandra
