Crafting attempt: Cactus pincushions

You might have read the previous post which stated that I bought a beautiful mini glue gun and some other crafting supplies. Another earlier post listed some of the crafts that I've been wanting to make. I finally made some! Here is my first attempt at a completely hand sewn cactus pincushion:

It has a few flaws, but I think it turned out well for a first attempt, with no pattern or instructions. :) They will only improve with practice.  I also made it a little baby!

The baby looks a little silly with the huge pins, but he's kinda cute. Here is a picture with both of them, naked, and an American quarter for size comparison.

Personally, I'm rather fond of seeing the stitching on hand-sewn plushies and the like; I think it's adorable and "homey", but I feel some people would prefer the thread to blend in with the fabric. What do you prefer in your stuffies or hand made objects? I'm interested to know. :) Please leave a comment if you'd like!
