Hello friends, declutterers, and new readers! Welcome to my decluttering journey. :)
I spent nearly all of this year (and good portion of last) decluttering my life of unneeded possessions. I filled six contractor bags with stuff at my house. It really shocked me to see how just how much stuff I actually had, and shocked me even more to see how little I really cared about, which translated to how much clutter I only kept because why not.
This week I finally got the 6 bags of stuff out of my life for good: I requested a pickup from Purple Heart, and they came and got them. Only nice condition stuff went into the bags, iffy or poor condition stuff went into the trash. Here the's bags of nice stuff before departure:

I also filled about two additional garbage bags worth of my stuff at Gran's house. They
Oh, and speaking of Gran's house, I finally managed to purge a ton of old magazines that were living there, untouched and mostly unread. Some of them went to family and friends, some nicer ones went to the local thrift store, but most honestly just went into the recycling bin. A year or two ago I went through a phase where I would do surveys online in exchange for free magazine subscriptions, and needless to say, they built up rather quickly! Behold:
I only realized they were a problem when my collection was getting too big to fit in my book cabinet, which had me thinking "Hmm...do I have too many? Which ones can I get rid of? Which ones do I read?". That was what made me self-aware, a lightbulb sort of went off; I didn't really read any of them. I liked getting new ones in the mail, but once I got it, I flipped through it a bit, then put it on the shelf. The stack had been waiting for the one day I'd "eventually get around to reading them". I have since accepted that day is not coming and they must be let go. And you know what? It felt great!
It was such a relief to get all these things out of my life. Less clutter, and less stress, more simplicity, more serenity. The quest continues!
Thank you for reading! Good luck decluttering!
