A Mother's Day tribute to my Mum (2014)

Happy Mother's Day, everybody! To-day I'd like to share a tribute to my own wonderful mother.

First of all, let me just say that I'm so lucky to not only have a mother, but to have a mother as awesome as mine.  She really is one of the most precious gifts God has given me, and I couldn't ask for a better mom. I know a lot of people say that, but I honestly mean it. She's my best friend, and one of the all time most important people in my life. She's talented in nearly everything she does, generous, selfless, loving, and hilarious. I'm so glad that we share a similar sense of humour (along with a mutual understanding that I'm slightly funnier). I love her so much.

She's gorgeous, too!
This was taken back when she had long hair. Circa 2011-ish.

She went through a near-death experience back in early 2013 and it really changed my life. I won't get into it in major detail, but the whole ordeal entailed her being in the hospital with double pneumonia, a helicopter ride, a rotating medical bed, and being in a coma for nearly two months. It was literally the worst time of my life; I was so scared that I was going to lose her. I knew I had to be strong and trust God, and believe that everything would be alright. Still, every time the phone rang I got nervous. Once, when it rang around 3am and the caller ID displayed the number of the hospital, I nearly had a panic attack. (For those who are curious- the call wasn't regarding her; it was regarding another family member, nothing serious either) Despite all the fear of the unknown, I kept my faith in God and She delivered her back to me, alive and well. For that I am eternally thankful. Mum slowly but steadily regained her strength, and is back to her wonderful self again. The whole episode really opened my eyes to a number of things. Not only did I realize how much she means to me, but also a few other topics relating to life and death.

The fearful times are behind us now, and our bond is stronger than ever, but we will never forget those dark days. We're all thankful that everything turned out okay, and we're not going to live in the past. We enjoy life as it is, as we never know when our time here will be up!

So, here is a big "thank you" to my Mum for everything she's done for me, and an even bigger "thank you" to God for not only giving her to me, but also letting me keep her.

THANK YOU!

Happy Mother's Day, Mum.
I love you.
